I write about subjects where I have some expertise, subjects I know, places I have been. I write about Burma because I have been there. Though I have not been there, I write about Russia because I am a Russia-watcher. I talk about Art because I am a painter; I am a music-lover, primarily with the piano, but also the cello. I talk about movies and theater (or because I love them) because I have written two screenplays. Sometimes I talk about espionage because I wrote a book on the subject.

Blue Group is a the biography of an agent, operator and officer in the NSA. Frederic DeLis was an agent for 46 years, from 1947 (before there was an NSA), until 1993. I saw the last envelope arrive - when Frederic told them he wanted to retire. The envelope was embosses with the great seal - an empty envelope means "Call home, we have work for you." Frederic DeLis was a contract agent; he was not required to sign an oath of secrecy.

Frederic's picture is in the left column, and a short text on the screenplay of "Blue Group."
